OUR STORY
A little piece of Launceston,
with a lot of heart
Meet your host
A Launceston local through and through
Mac & Sylvia’s Apartment 30 may be a little studio in the middle of Launceston, but its story starts much further back.
I’m Amanda, a born-and-bred Launceston local. I grew up here and now live in the West Tamar with my husband Andrew and our son, Harry.
Launceston has always been home, and Apartment 30 is our way of sharing a little of that with the people who come to stay.
The story behind the name
Mac & Sylvia were my grandparents, and the namesakes behind Apartment 30.
After the Second World War, they left Liverpool for Tasmania as Ten Pound Poms, arriving with six children and later welcoming another six after settling in the West Tamar.
Their home was always full of warmth, family and the kind of welcome that made you feel instantly at home.
That feeling stayed with me and became part of the inspiration for Apartment 30. We’ve filled it with art, colour and thoughtful details, creating a place that feels personal, welcoming and easy to settle into.
Naming it after Mac & Sylvia felt like a lovely way to carry a little of their story forward.

Our little corner of Tasmania
Today, Apartment 30 sits opposite City Park in the heart of Launceston, surrounded by many of the things we love about the city.
Good coffee, brilliant food, galleries, shops and plenty of places to wander are all close by, with the Tamar Valley and northern Tasmania there to explore when you feel like heading a little further afield.
We hope Apartment 30 gives you a lovely place to come home to at the end of the day, and a little of the warmth and welcome that inspired it in the first place.
